Online Medicare Seminars:
What to Expect
While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed many processes and protocols in the health care space, it hasn’t changed Allina Health | Aetna’s dedication to you. We are now serving community members through a new online Medicare seminar format to allow you to get your Medicare questions answered without having to leave home.
Online Medicare seminars are a great, low-pressure way to learn about different Medicare health plans before October 15 when you can start signing up for one. We know choosing something as important as the right health insurance plan can be daunting. Attending a meeting can help clear up your questions and prepare you to make the best choice for your needs and circumstances. Online seminars will continue throughout the Annual Enrollment Period.
What will an online seminar look like?
Using ON24, a webcasting platform similar to Zoom or FaceTime, attendees will see and hear an interactive presentation given by one of our licensed brokers who knows all of the ins and outs of Allina Health | Aetna Medicare plans. Before the meeting, individuals can request access to an e-kit with applicable materials for review. These materials can also be mailed directly to you upon request. During the presentation, attendees are encouraged to interact with the presenter in real-time through the chat feature on the platform. Following the presentation, each attendee can request a follow-up email or phone call to schedule a one-on-one meeting with an Allina Health | Aetna broker. These one-on-one meetings will provide an opportunity to ask specific questions and review your needs analysis, which outlines your specific doctor needs, prescriptions, and more.
Tips for a successful seminar
While we are all getting used to participating in virtual conversations and attending virtual events, there are a few tips that can help you feel prepared for your first virtual Medicare meeting.
- Get comfortable. Choose a meeting time that works best for you and your schedule without having to leave home or brave the Minnesota weather. Set up in a quiet, private area where you can comfortably sit through the presentation.
- Strong connection. Having a strong internet connection for the duration of the video call will be important. It can be beneficial to determine which browser is most compatible with the virtual platform you’ll be accessing. Google Chrome is the browser of choice for the ON24 platform Allina health | Aetna will be using. Also, consider moving closer to your modem or connecting via an ethernet cord if you tend to experience a less reliable Wi-Fi connection. In addition to strong internet, make sure the phone, tablet, or computer you are using is charged or has a power supply on standby.
- Prepare early. If possible, log on 15 – 20 minutes early to make sure you can connect to the meeting. You can also use this time to introduce yourself and meet the presenters.
- Take note. Having a pen and paper nearby will be helpful as you think of questions you want to ask. It also gives you a place to take down notes, if needed.
- No pressure. If you have to leave early, no problem! Make a note of when you jumped off and you will get a chance to review the information you missed with a broker during a one-on-one follow-up meeting, if interested.
Benefits of online Medicare seminars
While we love to meet you face to face, the new virtual meeting format allows us to still make a real time connection while keeping safety and convenience in mind. Virtual Medicare meetings offer you a no-pressure way to get your specific questions answered. Going virtual also allows you to find time to meet when most convenient for you, from the comfort of your home, while limiting potential exposure to COVID-19.
