Allina Health | Aetna Announces Executive Leadership Team

(MINNEAPOLIS) Allina Health and Aetna Insurance Company (Allina Health | Aetna), a health plan jointly owned by Allina Health and Aetna, has named its executive leadership team under recently appointed CEO Tom Lindquist.

Allina Health | Aetna is a distinct partnership that combines the resources of Allina Health’s high-quality facilities and broad care network of affiliated doctors, nurses and other health care professionals with Aetna’s national health plan expertise and commitment to innovation. Both organizations bring to the joint venture significant care management and data analytics tools.

The mission of the joint venture is to transform the complicated health care experience by bringing together two organizations with a common vision to improve care and drive down costs.

The Allina Health | Aetna executive leadership team appointments and roles include:

  • Robert Wieland, MD, Chief Medical Officer – Dr. Wieland is responsible for the strategic direction of care and medical management as well as planning, organizing, and directing the health plan in formulating standards of care. He will also facilitate communication between customers, physicians and administration and evaluate customer utilization outcomes. Dr. Wieland joins the organization from Allina Health, where he was chief strategy officer.

 

  • Jeffrey Jacobsen, Chief Financial Officer – Jacobsen leads the creation, analysis and reporting of financial information to the Board of Directors, internal and external stakeholders and regulatory constituents. He will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting and internal control related policies for the joint venture. Jacobsen joins the organization from Medica, where he was the senior director of finance for its commercial market division.

 

  • Nichole Melton Mitchell, Chief Operations Officer – Mitchell leads the operations function of the joint venture, managing relationships across people, segments and multiple functional areas of the joint venture’s parent companies in order to deliver exceptional experiences to Allina Health | Aetna membership. Mitchell joins the organization from Molina Healthcare of South Carolina, where she was the assistant vice president of government contracts.

 

  • Barry Carlson, Chief Sales Officer – Carlson leads the sales and account management team in implementing strategic partnerships with employer groups, consultants, and brokers. Additionally, he will drive the comprehensive distribution strategy for the joint venture. Carlson joins the organization from Medica, where he was the director of strategic accounts in commercial markets.

 

  • Britta Orr, Medicare General Manager – Orr will be responsible for driving the Allina Health | Aetna Medicare strategy. She will manage all departments in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements. Orr joins the organization from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, where she was a senior policy consultant.

The executive team will report to CEO Lindquist, with the immediate priorities of finalizing product offerings and developing a differentiated member experience.

Allina Health | Aetna offers a number of fully insured and self-insured commercial products. The joint venture intends to offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2019, pending regulatory approvals.
